Unstructured Showdown

If you've ever been a teenage boy, you've doubtless pondered the sort of question where you ask who would win, Superman vs. Hulk, or Batman vs. Spiderman, or Optimus Prime vs. the big robot from Voltron (and so forth and so on).

The Ultimate Showdown is a flash animation, set to a very catchy song, that takes that line of thought to its ultimate conclusion.

Quickie

I wanted to drop everyone a quick note to let them know that the move to coming along well. Natalie is here and helping with the last minute arrangements. My last day of work was today (apparently, they'll miss me) but I already have at least one interview set up and don't expect to have any trouble finding work (knock on laminar surface). I'll be picking up the truck on Saturday, packing it on Sunday with the help of friends, doing a final clean up on Monday, and heading out on Tuesday morning which will, hopefully, mean that I'll be in my new home by next Friday.

In the meanwhile, if you've been wondering what was up with that whispered sequence at the end of Lost in Translation, someone's taken the effort to digitally process it to extract the dialog. Obviously, don't watch the clip if you prefer the mystery.

Ever since I made,my very first Möbius strip at the age of eleven, I've been deeply fascinated by topology.

This video talks about everting a sphere which means turning it inside out. There's a number of critical rules that have to be followed, which the video covers very nicely using some very nice CGI and easy to understand step-by-step walk-through.

A friend of mine and his wife are leaving for Japan for two weeks so, in his honor, I present to you this rather odd Japanese commercial featuring a singing Red Riding Hood and her animal friends (including one rather special fellow).

As near as I can tell, it's a commercial for an architectural firm. Go figure.

Unstructured Björk

In all honesty, I think that Björk is an overrated singer. While I would agree that she has a unique voice and that her lyrics are creative, I don't believe that uniqueness and creativity always suffice. That said, I don't think that there's any questions that her videos are the best around.

Beer Activated Girl

With a title like Beer Activated Girl, you'd think that this parody of Coin Activated Boy would be utterly misogynistic but it actually manages to be rather sweet in an odd sort of way. Bonus points for using a cute, plus-sized model.

Ferrofluid Sculptures

At first I thought that this video was computer generated but, in fact, it's an actual video of a real substance. Ferrofluids are a special class of liquids where nanoscopic magnetic particles are suspended in a viscous liquid. The fluids display very interesting behaviors in the presence of magnetic fields, as you can see for yourself.
