When I write an essay, such as the recent one on Omnipresence, I like to think that I'm inspiring my readers in some way. Mind you, I wasn't expecting the inspiration to take quite this form.

2007
Once again it is that arbitrary point in time where we declare the beginning of a new year, so I wanted to take a moment to thank all of my readers (all three of you) for taking the time to peruse my ponderings. Let me wish you a happy new year with all the hope that it will be a good one.

Unstructured Weird Al-ity
Weird Al Yankovich's new album, Straight Outta Lynwood, is going to be in stores this Tuesday.
If you're impatient, you can already download it from Yahoo!Music, although you might want to get the actual CD/DVD since it has 6 videos, including animations by Bill Plymton and John "Ren and Stimpy" Kricfalusi.
In the meanwhile you can enjoy his new video, White and Nerdy.
That is all.

Say What!?
One of the first things I do, in the morning, is scan the headlines on Yahoo news. One, in particular, caught my eye:
IAEA Approves 'Non-Binding' Iran Nuclear Freeze
This refers to the International Atomic Energy Association; however, my morning-bleared eyes read that as "IKEA Approves 'Non-Binding' Iran Nuclear Freeze".
I knew the swedes made great, affordable furniture, but I had no idea that IKEA was so engaged in international affairs.

Rejection Letter
I'm still in the process of moving, so no poem for today. In lieu of that, here's a rather charming rejection letter that I got awhile back from Tomorrow SF
Dear Andrew,
Thank you for showing me "The Buddah in the Bathroom." It had many virtues, but selling to our audience is oftimes a matter of being clever in exactly the right way.
I'm sorry.
Bests,
Algis Budrys

GMail Beta!
I signed into Blogger this morning and was much surprised to find that having an active Blog qualifies me for a Gmail beta account. I've set myself up with an account at anrwlias@gmail.com.
Since I do want to be a good, little beta tester, it would be very helpful if you could spare a moment to send me some email. It doesn't have to be anything specific or profound. Just a simple test message would be find.
Oh, and before I forget: whooo!!

Diamond Factoid
I learned an interesting thing about diamonds. Contrary to the De Beers slogan, diamonds are not, in fact, forever. All diamonds on or near the Earth's surface are slowly unraveling into ordinary graphite.
